do players contracts renew automatically?

i have never let a player go below 1 year left and iv always offered a new contract before then but it is a pain wih over 100 players and having to go through each to offer new contracts. what happens if you dont offer a contract, sdoes it renew automatically or are you propmted or what? cheers :)
