No, you won't get income from friendlies.
Assuming your team plays in a small stadium that can't generate enough matchday income to pay for the players you want, the best way to earn extra income is through buying and selling players. There are several methods you can use:
1) Buying Free Agents at 75% of their value then selling them on at full price.
2) Buying players and then using them for player exchange deals with clubs that value the player more than your chairman does.
3) Scouting and buying players whose ratings (and thus value) will rise. You can them sell them on at a profit.
