You could rotate your players to give players appearances that you would normally not play. Also, make full use of the substitute bench as sub appearances count as partial appearances for the purposes of player concerns.
You might want to also think about whether or not you ultimately do actually need the player and whether he will ever play for you.

The only solution is make him play in more games, naturally.
