I am Stevenage and I have got to the top of Division 1 in my first season. However, 29 games into an amazing season, including doing the double over Man Utd, my teas suddenly lost 4 games in a row, I had only lost 3 games all season before that! And of course Man Utd closed the gap and with just 3 games left went top and are now set to win the league with one game left on Wednesday (29th August). I have seen this happen before, usually Man Utd, Arsenal or Barcelona in spanish league, but why does it happen? Is it to reward the Man Utd boss for being a Gold Member? Is ig to try and keep the less interested managers interested by handing them success? Is it to create the feel of more challenge for the real winners? It's clearly a fix and something needs to be done, especially as Man Utd will definately be top each season, but my Stevenage will probably struggle to get that high again for a long time. Help!
I dont know if you will believe me but it isnt a fix. Its just random chance. My arsenal starting 11 gave an average rating or 96, but cant go a season unbeaten, or even be definite title winners. For all the work you put in with a team, the great tactical play, the clever player purchases, there is always an element of random chance. Sometimes you get lucky sometimes you dont. Maybe earlier in the season you got some wins that were unlikely - now you have to expect the flip side where you lose games you dont expect to. A stronger squad, like the man u side you talk about, have a better chance simply because they will have better players. My burton albion side are probably in a similar position to your stevenage, they keep swapping the top spot with man city, but it aint over until its over. Getting a stevenage side to second spot in a top division isnt easy, dont beat yourself up about it. Its more rewarding to do well with a small team than to have it laid on a platter for you with the riches of man u or barca.
I have won the league with no players rated above 93, and I have lost with an average starting 11 rating of 95. Luck always plays its part, its built into the game engine.
And for the record, it definitely isnt a reward for gold managers. Im a gold manager, and the game works just the same for me as for you.
