It simply shows the players runs. e.g if you put an arrow pointing up the pitch that means you are asking the player to attack up the pitch or if you want your right midfielder to cut in and come back to defend, you point the arrow behind him and pointing inwards.

It us where you want your players to run. for example if you were barca and you wanted iniesta to run up into attack to help messi you would point the arrow towards messi.

It's a new addition of the game. Arrows help you manage the team better. They show wether the player wants to move. For example if you play 4-5-1 a good way is to make your wingers play down both flanks, so make arrows look down to be able to assist your CF. Many arrows down shows that your game is more Offensive. Arrows up/back shows that you want stronger defence. You can also combine arrows with Tactics-styles.
