Soccer Manager believes that most of the answers to your questions are covered within our Help.

What has happened to the New Player/Player Changes database?

Additional Details
I can't seem to find these databases that were available on the old format; the one that listed all recent player changes and what leagues were due to be revised next, etc.
Are these no longer available?
Also, the Real Life Clubs database seems to have gone as well..?

Click on the globe icon on the top bar for the player database which gives the recent ratings changes. As for the real life clubs database I think thats long gone, I've looked for it myself and never managed to find it!
