Do you get compensated for players retiring from your squad at the end of a season, I am manager of a small club and cant afford to lose 5m

I have Gary Neville in one of my teams who is retiring at the end of this season. The club i manage is on a restrictive budget, and we cannot afford to lose 5m quid on a player who is retiring, as we are already in debt, if i have to sell it would - in all probability result in sinking back down to the fourth division.
