He did.
A previous manager sold him.
You can see when and for how much by clicking on 'player history' tab (of the player).

Maybe u didnt take the team at the beginning of the season and either another team bought him or the first Arsenal manager of ur gameworld sold him. U can click on the player and check his history !!
