Don't even try to understand how this thing works. They generate unrealistic and more than just funny results and bring lousy excuses. They don't understand that they discourage the managers who work for months trying to make a better team. What's the point if you gonna lose anyway ? Yeah, you can lose to teams which have a team wiyh an average of 4-5 below your yours, but more than 4-5 is just ridiculous.

As the previous comment said its worked out using a formula. It might seem unrealistic but if the clubs played in real life the inferior club would have a chance of winning even if it was just a 1% chance, i think its like this in the game, you may play the same team under the same conditions 100 times and you would probably win, most of the time, but it would be unfair to simply say the entire match would be based on ratings.

Try checking your tactics, complicated tactics are often not as goo as the simle 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 ect, alot of players make this mistake, also check the player fitness

The results are decided using SM's match engine which takes into account numerous game factors ranging from player fitness level to rating to tactics/formations. Naturally, SM cannot disclose exactly how the results are decided since that would ruin the game.
