Soccer Manager believes that most of the answers to your questions are covered within our Help.

It has been like this for days now-keeps saying an error has occured. I'm missing matches, transfers etc because of this so it would be appreciated if it could be fixed, or at least an explanation as to why this is happening (is it just me for example). Cheers :)

This sounds like an in-game Bug. You will need to report this to SM by creating a Bug ticket. There is a link on the left of this screen for reporting any in-game Bugs.
